It is time to catch up!
I have to admit, I did not appreciate the idea of wiki. Yes it can be useful and it can be more efficient way to communicate. But I still doubt the reliability. It is just a good quick reference for general curiosity...
I guess it really depends on the contributor and your personal interests.
I am not a regular 'wiki' user but Mint Wiki was really impressive.

I think with wikis like any other tool you need to look at the provenance. Some wikis have a very limited writing pool for quality control, others are self managed. They can be really good, or not - you need to take each one, like each website, on its merits.
